To be considered for a Susan T. Buffett Scholarship, you must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For the 2017-2018 FAFSA, you and/or your parent/guardian(s), must use 2015 taxes in order to complete the FAFSA application. For more information on the Early FAFSA, please visit EducationQuest’s FAFSA Tools page and use the 2017-2018 links: www.educationquest.org/resources/fafsa-tools/. The FAFSA can be done as soon as October 1st, and you must receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) prior to our February 1st deadline.
If you plan on completing the FAFSA online, you will need an FSA ID in order to sign the FAFSA electronically. If you are a dependent student, you and a parent/guardian will each need an FSA ID. Go to FSAid.ed.gov to get an FSA ID.
Please go to www.fafsa.ed.gov for more information or to start your application. The FAFSA usually processes in three to five days, but can vary at peak times. To check the status of your application, return to the FAFSA website and log in as a returning user.
After you have completed your FAFSA, you will receive the Student Aid Report (SAR) that needs to be submitted with your application.
The Student Aid Report is the report you receive after the government processes your FAFSA. We will NOT accept a copy of your application information, nor will we accept a copy of your submission confirmation. Here is an example of a correct 2017-2018 SAR in PDF format: Student Aid Report (SAR). Note: only the 2017-2018 SAR is accepted for the application. The SAR needs to be uploaded to your scholarship application before you submit your application by February 1st.
If you provided a valid email address when you applied for financial aid, you will receive a notification email with instructions on how to access and view your SAR online. You will need to return to the FAFSA website and log in as a returning user, and select "View Your Student Aid Report." Then you will have the option of printing the SAR or saving it as a PDF.
If you did not provide an email address when you applied for financial aid, you will receive a paper copy of your Student Aid Report in the mail. NOTE: It takes longer to receive a paper copy of your SAR, so work far enough in advance to ensure you meet our February 1st application deadline. Once you receive your SAR, you will then need to scan and save it as a PDF in order to upload it to your online application.
Once you have downloaded and saved the PDF of your Student Aid Report, you will need to upload it to your online application by the February 1st deadline.
EducationQuest at www.educationquest.org can assist you with the FAFSA filing process, free of charge.
